    Somehow the 60s look to the books make them look charming and harmless - I'm sure I remember that last one in our school library. The most risque thing is its title - swearing!! Quite shocking ;-)

    raven, I used to see lurid covers like those in the local convenience store or newsstand. Never dared buy one, though, until years later.

    Very nice collection of cover art. I just wonder if the contents are as lurid. Just curious. I think I was reading Harold Robbins around this time always had something for everyone.

    If those books were available in South Africa in those years, I could pretty much bet that they were smuggled in straight past the censorboard! If I can recall, "Lady Chaterley's Lover" was banned for years, not even mentioning "The Thornbirds"

    No, they are truly very much blatant about what the content contains. Could help with those moments where you want a spanking, and the hints are not working. Plonk one of these ones down in his lap.
