Spanking Nincompoop

Love this spanking scene from Reap the Wild Wind (Ray Milland spanking Paulette Goddard), but my favourite part? When she calls him a nincompoop!

Nincompoop Etymology:
1670s, nicompoop.
Despite similarity [noted by Johnson] to Latin legal phrase non compos mentis "insane, mentally incompetent" (c.1600), the connection is denied by etymologists because the earliest forms lack the second -n-.
Weekley thinks first element may be a proper name, and cites Nicodemus, which he says was used in French for "a fool," or Nicholas.

Eh...Uncle Nick? It is not me saying it...you will have to talk to this Weekley guy... really...

In 2007 "Nincompoop" was voted the UK's favourite sounding word.

"Nincompoop", polled 13 per cent of the votes to scoop the title.

More than 2,000 members of the British public were asked to pick their favourite word from the 16,500 entries in the Cambridge Dictionary.

"Love" came in second. Seems there has always been a connection LOL!

Being a nincompoop for believing in love?
Loving a nincompoop?
Oh, I can have oodles of fun with this...but bottom preserving practises prevail...sadly.

Only a pleasure. I have not written a post about figging - although between me and you - it fascinates me. However, I do know that Poppy has written about figging: http://www.devlinoneill.com/?p=14191

Hope that helps.

RR, having used three of the top four words...number three in the list is "Mum" - maybe the common consequence of the other three LOL!

Whatever it's origin, it is a fun word to say.
